Demonstration circuit 2116A features the LTC4233/LTC4234 10A/20A Guaranteed SOA Hot Swap™ Controllers. The LTC4233 and LTC4234 are ideally suited for compact power distribution control in 2.9V to 15V applications for hot board insertion protection, high side power switching, and electronic circuit breaker functions.

The LTC4227 offers ideal diode-OR and Hot Swap? functions for two power rails by controlling external Nchannel MOSFETs. MOSFETs acting as ideal diodes replace two high power Schottky diodes and the associated heat sinks, saving power and board area. A Hot Swap control MOSFET allows a board to be safely inserted and removed from a live backplane by limiting inrush current. The supply output is also protected against short-circuit faults with a fast acting current limit and internal timed circuit breaker.The LTC4227 regulates the forward voltage drop across the MOSFETs to ensure smooth current transfer from one supply to the other without oscillation. The ideal diodes turn on quickly to reduce the load voltage droop during supply switchover. If the input supply fails or is shorted, a fast turn-off minimizes reverse-current transients.The LTC4227 allows turn-on/off control, and reports fault and power good status for the supply. This reference design provides an isolated 14.5V/35W output from a universal 85-265VAC input. It uses the UCC28740 flyback controller to provide high efficiency and minimize light load losses. Maximum load efficiency is over 88%. The average efficiency (measured at 25%: 50%: 75%: and 100% load) is 87.9%. The UCC28740 also provides accurate current limiting which eliminates the need for a load protecting switch on the output.

The HMC8364 is a gallium arsenide (GaAs), quadband, monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC), voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) designed to offer wideband frequency capabilities without compromising phase noise performance. The device integrates four independent, narrow-band VCOs with overlapping frequency bands, operating at a fundamental frequency range of 18.10 GHz to 26.60 GHz. The consistent tuning sensitivity across all frequency bands simplifies the synthesizer loop filter design.The tuning port is common to all VCO cores for a simpler design of the phase-locked loop (PLL) feedback path. The ADL5500 is a mean-responding power detector for use in high frequency receiver and transmitter signal chains from 100 MHz to 6 GHz. It is easy to apply, requiring only a single supply between 2.7 V and 5.5 V and a power supply decoupling capacitor. The input is internally ac-coupled and has a nominal input impedance of 50 ?. The output is a linear-responding dc voltage with a conversion gain of 6.4 V/V rms at 900 MHz. The on-chip, 1 k? series resistance at the output combined with an external shunt capacitor creates a low-pass filter response that reduces the residual ripple in the dc output voltage.The ADL5500 is intended for true power measurement of simple and complex waveforms. The device is particularly useful for measuring high crest factor (high peak-to-rms ratio) signals, such as CDMA2000, W-CDMA, and QPSK/QAM-based OFDM waveforms.The ADL5500 offers excellent temperature stability with near 0 dB measurement error across temperature. This reference design demonstrate an universal 85V~277V AC input 4.2W LED lighting driver using Texas Instruments TPS92310. It confirms this solution can support 3~4 LEDs in series with high efficiency: low cost and primary side regulator without any feedback on the seconday side.

This power supply design generates a 12V/100W isolated output from a standard 48V telecom input. An active clamp forward converter is controlled by the UCC2897A. The INA202 and an external PFET are used to provide a current limited 12V/4.5A output derived from the main 12V output of the forward converter. This power supply has a peak efficiency of over 94%.

The LT8672 is an active rectifier controller for reverse input protection. It drives an external N-channel MOSFET to replace a power Schottky diode. Its very low quiescent current and fast transient response meet the tough requirements in automotive applications where AC input signals of up to 100kHz are present. These signals are rectified with minimum power dissipation on the external FET, simplifying thermal management on the PCB.With a drop of only 20mV, the LT8672 solution eases the minimum input voltage requirement during cold crank and start-stop, allowing simpler and more efficient circuits.
