This 3D scanning reference design enables faster development of portable 3D scanner and machine vision applications using structured light triangulation technique where DLP® technology is used to project highly flexible patterns on an object. This design uses the DLP® Pico™ 0.2-inch TRP WVGA DMD (DLP2010) with the DLPC3470 display and light controller. The compact physical size of the DLP2010 is well-suited for portable equipment where small form factor and low power is important. This reference design comes with an example light engine design which includes electronics and optics along with software to generate different light pattern sets used in 3D scanning designs. The same electronics design can also be used with DLP2010NIR DMD which is useable for NIR light sources accommodating wavelengths ranging from 700 nm to 2500 nm. With high-speed and programmable patterns possible with DLP technology: designers can achieve high-speed 3D image reconstruction at micron-level resolution that is useful in a broad set of applications such as 3D cameras: facial recognition biometrics: 3D dental scanners: robotic vision and factory automation.
